Board Game Therapy™ is one method with three application scopes: Host (Leaders & Facilitators), Coach, and Therapist. Pick the lane that matches your role.

Therapist

For Therapists

Licensed clinical use

For licensed clinicians who may use structured play as an adjunct inside an existing treatment relationship. Consent, judgment, and documentation stay with you. Not a stand-alone therapy product and not a diagnosis tool.

Assessment, treatment planning, informed consent, documentation, trauma titration, rupture/repair, risk management, and applicable law stay with the clinician. Stages 1–5 with judgment and consent. Formal clinical training is not available on this site.

Coach

For Coaches

Nonclinical skill development

For coaches and facilitators working on communication, teamwork, leadership, and decision-making. Use deliberate goals and a structured debrief. Stay developmental. Do not frame this as psychotherapy.

Stages 1–4. Intervention levels commonly 0–4; Level 5 only for nonclinical skill transfer. No diagnosis. No treatment claims.

HOST SCOPE

For Leaders & Facilitators

Belonging, safer play

For hosts, managers, chaplains, and community facilitators who want safer, more inclusive play with clearer debrief. Belonging and connection first. No diagnosis. No treatment claims. Stop when the material exceeds your role.

Host-safe public bounds. Stages primarily 1–3. Intervention levels generally 0–3. No trauma processing. No psychotherapy framing.

Board Game Therapy is not inherently psychotherapy. Its use depends on the facilitator, scope, setting, and purpose. Licensed clinicians may integrate structured play into an existing treatment relationship; Host and Coach applications remain nonclinical.

Never convert an ordinary community or coaching activity into “therapy” through marketing language. Playing a board game does not automatically make an activity therapy. Formal credentials are a later phase, after transferability is demonstrated.
